SABBATH: A Screening and Discussion

  • Virginia Theological Seminary, Lettie Pates Evans Room 3630 Bishop Walker Circle Alexandria, VA, 22304 United States (map)

SABBATH is an expansive look at the Commandment to “rest” and “keep holy the Lord’s Day” across religions and cultures throughout America. From the first Pilgrim settlements to the large-scale religious gatherings of today to how COVID has changed the way Americans gather for worship, the film explores how Sabbath has been and continues to be an important theme etched into the story of America.

The screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include a brief conversation with The Rev. Judy Fentress-Williams, the Dodge Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Virginia Theological Seminary and Senior Assistant to the Pastor and Director of Christian Education at Alfred Street Baptist Church. We look forward to delving into how sabbath impacts how Americans worship.
